How It Started…
Thea, new owner of The Tropics, a dive bar in Redding, CA, approached us for branding help. While the bar had historical and recognizable signage, it did not have much else in the way of a cohesive visual brand. Thea wanted to honor the history of the bar, staying true to its roots as a tiki bar.
Time for a Rebrand
When asked what 3 words best describes The Tropics brand, Thea responded with: storied, playful, escapism. She really wants to make The Tropics feel “like somewhere to get lost” and our brand designer delivered!
From a design perspective, we leaned into the tropical, retro vibe and pulled inspiration from the existing neon sign that locals recognize at The Tropics. The color palette is muted, which helps deter from the stereotypical “tropical” color palette. However, it still maintains the fun, nostalgia that regulars keep coming back for.
In terms of typography, our designer opted for art deco-inspired fonts, which were popular in the 20’s, but were also significant in mid-century design. It allows for the throrback feel, but is still legible and sharp.
The Tropics on Social Media
The final piece of the puzzle was creating Canva templates that the Tropics team could use to streamline social media content creation. We created 3 core templates that we know they will use on repeat:
a cocktail/food feature
meet the staff
an event highlight
These templates will help make content creation faster and easier for Thea and The Tropics team by offering a plug-and-play solution that is on-brand and totally customized for their visual branding.
